Although I drew incessantly as a child, I did not pick up a paint brush until I attended St. Michael's College in 1976.  There my friend and mentor Prof. Lance Richbourg taught me to be an oil painter.  I continued to paint in oils until the mid 1990's, when I switched to acrylic paints, the medium I continue to use to this day.  Every six months or so I select a theme, and then  create a couple dozen paintings on the subject.  Below is a "sampler" of some of those painting series.

OLD HOUSES~  When I was in High School I got a job as the docent of the Rutland Historical Society Museum.  One of my duties was to conduct tours of the many historic old houses around the city.  I developed a fondness for these grand old mansions, many of which had seen better days.  Like the Victorians, I take pleasure in gazing upon gaudy decorations.

THE OLD NEIGHBORHOOD  These paintings are based upon old photographs of Rutland VT and other VT  towns that were taken between 1850 and 1950.

WALKING HOME ~ The "Walking Home" series was based upon memories of my childhood, when I walked everywhere, in all sorts of weather.

DROPPED FOODS ~ This "Dropped Foods" series was my answer to those countless still life paintings of tables laden with food and drink that one finds in all the art history books.  As to why these foods ended up being thrown to the floor...I leave that to the viewer's imagination...

LANDSCAPES~  Although I am by no means an "outdoorsy" sort of fellow, as a painter I do feel the need to recognize the fact that I live in the most beautiful state in the country.
